Update: Power Restored to California’s Kirkwood Ski Resort Following Fire

Kirkwood, CA – Electrical power has been restored to Kirkwood Mountain Resort as of 4 p.m. this afternoon following successful installation of new generators at the Mountain Utilities power house which caught fire late Friday afternoon, leaving the California ski resort without power and closed for skiing and snowboarding today.

The New Year’s Day fire occurred in the Mountain Utilities power house at the base of the resort. The utility company brought in a portable power supply equal to approximately three times the necessary power needed to operate the resort. While the power distribution system remained intact following the fire and power was available, workers needed time to connect the power source to the distribution system.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort is expected to open with full resort operations including all chair lifts, restaurants, and resort amenities on Sunday.
