Whitefish Ski Accident Victim Dies

Whitefish, MT – A 16-year-old German foreign exchange student hurt in a skiing accident at Whitefish Mountain Resort last Wednesday has died from his injuries.

Niclas Waeschle’s family arrived from Germany and decided to remove the teen from life support on Sunday as no brain activity had been detected. He has been in critical condition since he was found unconscious and without a pulse upside down in a tree well.

Waeschle had reportedly been living with a host family in Columbia Falls, Mont. at the time of the incident. He was a season passholder at Whitefish Mountain.

While a cause of death has not yet been officially determined, it is presumed that he suffocated in the tree well in which he was found. It is unknown how long he had been there before he was spotted by passers-by.
