Roxbury, NY – Buoyed by a foot of snowfall from the East Coast’s Halloween storm, Ski Plattekill opened a chairlift today for a bunch of happy New York State skiers and riders.

“We are open, quite possible the first in New York for the season,” said Plattekill owner Laszlo Vajtay, who describes his ski area as “fiercely independent.”

“One lift is spinning, the double. It’s awesome. Powder 8’s look great on Freefall!” Vajtay added.

Skiers and riders lined up early after Vajtay hinted last night on Twitter that the mountain might open, while cautioning that with no manmade base conditions could be thin. In line for first chair was the editor of Harvey Road – The New York Ski Blog.

Plattekill is selling lift tickets today at that summer mountain biking rates of $35. The mountain’s tentative date for its regular season opening is December 3.
