Lazer Helmets Gets Into Skiing

Antwerp, Belgium – Established in 1919 and headquartered in Belgium, Lazer designs, manufactures and markets bicycle, leisure, and action sports helmets in more than 60 countries. Starting next winter, they’ll be adding helmets for the ski and snowboard market to their product line.

Launching to retailers this month at both the SnowSports Industries America (SIA) trade show and ISPO in Munich, Germany, Lazer Sport will unveil a full line of helmets specifically designed for skiers and snowboarders.

Lazer embarked upon its new snowsports line over three years ago. Building off its long helmet heritage, Lazer snow helmets will incorporate the company’s trademarked Rollsys fit system, while expanding upon Lazer’s ventilation research. The Lazer snow helmet line will debut with nine all new models for men, women, and kids. New features for audio, temperature control and goggle integration have been designed by the company exclusively for its new snow helmet collection.

“We incorporate some of our technologies into the new line, but more importantly it is our passion and experience that differentiates Lazer snow helmets from the competition,” says Lazer Snow CEO Peter Steenwegen.

U.S. distribution will be handled by Q-Outdoor, a division of QBP, and for Canada by NORCO. Both companies have been long-time partners with Lazer and will each expand their own efforts in the snowsports market. To support the distributors, Lazer has added new sales representatives across the country, and bolstered its growing staff domestically and abroad.

“Our dealer base is really engaged with Lazer as a brand, and our organizations have worked together for nearly eight years now,” said Leigh Carter, Q-Outdoor Brand Manager. “We’re really excited about the line, from the technology to the great designs and graphics. This was a natural step to work with Lazer snow helmets and continue to add value to our dealers and to consumers.”

Industry veteran Hans Dyhrman will act as Director of Marketing and Sales for the brand, and be based in Vermont. With experiences as Category Manager for RED at Burton Snowboards, and previously with Elan, “Hans has a depth of experience and education to lead the launch of Lazer snow helmets, and support our staff and retailers,”  according to Steenwegen.

Consumers will be able to purchase Lazer snow helmets through specialty retailers for the 2012-13 season.
