Winds gusting to 45 mph slammed the tram cabin into a tower shortly after leaving its summit terminal at around 7:20 p.m. on Monday. Two guests and three employees were inside the cabin at the time, and one guest reported a minor head injury.

The passengers in the affected cabin, as well as two Alyeska employees ascending in the counter-balancing cabin, were all evacuated from the lift. Following the incident, approximately sixty guests who were dining at the resort’s Seven Glaciers restaurant in the tram’s top station had to descend the mountain via other means. Most rode Chair 1 back to the base area, although some accepted transport via snow cat.

The tram remained closed on Tuesday as crews assessed damage to the lift.
