New Greek Peak Owners Promise Resort’s First High-Speed Quad

Virgil, NY – Greek Peak’s new owners are hitting the ground running by investing $4 million into the central New York State ski and snowboard resort for the coming winter, including its first high-speed quad chairlift.

Construction workers will begin setting 14 towers for the new $2.2 million base-to-summit Doppelmayr lift later this month, replacing the existing 1a double. Work on the new lift is expected to be completed in time for a Dec. 14 opening. A conveyor loading system will reduce the number of lift stops, and faster rope speed will cut ride times dramatically.

Work is also underway to renovate the resort’s base lodge to provide a bigger bar and restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the mountain, along with a three-tier heated outdoor deck.  Snow surfaces will be enhanced this winter with new snowmaking equipment and a new $500,000 groomer.

The upgrades mark the first on-hill investment at Greek Peak in many years. The improvements come after Elmira, N.Y. businessmen John Meier and Marc Stemerman purchased Greek Peak out of bankruptcy in March for $7.5 million.
