Zanesfield, OH – State fire investigators have been unable to determine the cause of a blaze that destroyed the base lodge at Ohio’s largest ski area on September 16th.
Officials with the State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau say that an electrical problem or discarded cigarette may have started the inferno at Mad River Mountain, but that they cannot pinpoint a cause for certain due to the extensive damage to the building. They added that they have no evidence of criminal activity or intent.
Mad River Mountain officials have indicated that the 2015-16 ski season will go on as planned, despite the loss of the historic lodge known as The Loft. They plan to hire the company Sprung to erect temporary structures to serve as a base lodge this season.
