South Lake Tahoe, CA – Patrollers at California’s Heavenly ski resort spent much of their Sunday morning and early afternoon evacuating 65 guests from a chairlift after one of the lift chairs suddenly fell to the ground.
The chair that fell from the North Bowl lift, a fixed-grip triple, was fortunately unoccupied, and was on its downhill run when the incident occurred at 10:58 a.m. on Sunday. Nevertheless, attendants stopped the lift and ski patrol spent two hours belaying frightened passengers safely to the ground. No injuries were reported.
Heavenly’s North Bowl lift remains closed, separating the resort’s Boulder Lodge from the rest of the mountain, while an investigation into the cause of the failure continues.
