Vonn Cleared to Ski

Vail, CO – American ski racing star Lindsey Vonn is back training on snow in Colorado for the first time after suffering a badly fractured upper arm while training at Copper Mountain in Colorado in November.

“I’m back on snow!! So happy!!” Vonn tweeted yesterday. “Taking it day by day and I’ll see how I feel.”

U.S. Ski Team Alpine Director Patrick Riml confirmed to the Associated Press that Vonn was back training on snow, and that she plans to travel to Europe this weekend.

Vonn’s performance is most prominent in the speed disciplines of Downhill and Super G. A downhill and a combined event are scheduled for Altenmarkt-Zauchensee on Jan. 14-15, ahead of the World Championships next month in Switzerland. Riml indicated that Vonn may return to the World Cup circuit as soon as the races in Altenmarkt, or perhaps later. But Vonn herself was less conclusive.

“I have not made any definitive plans to race yet,” Vonn’s tweet concluded.

Vonn last entered the starting gate in March 2016 with a broken knee sustained in a crash during a Super G in Andorra in February.

Vonn’s teammate Julia Mancuso, who has been off the World Cup circuit following a hip injury, may also return to racing in Altenmarkt.
