Mansfield, OH - This Saturday, Ohio's Snow Trails ski and snowboard area will host the Salomon Jib Academy, an International Freeski event held in Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, France, Canada and only five locations in the United States in 2007.
The Jib Academy will give at least 75 young up-and-coming freeski athletes, between the ages of 10 and 16, the opportunity to take part in this full-day event. Local Snow Trails heroes, along with Salomon's Sammy Carlson, Peter Olenick, Tommy Ellingson, Andrew Hathaway, Seth Warner, and more will organize the registered athletes into groups for coaching throughout the day.
Online registration and event details are available at www.salomonjibacademy.com or The Snow Trails Ski Shop. All participants must have signed waivers and check-in the day of the event. On-site registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the base of the Snow Trails SoBe No-Fear Terrain Park.
The Jib Academy event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and include a slopestyle competition between the ten athletes who throughout the day displayed the most skill and best attitude. One athlete, who comes away with the most points in this rider-judged slopestyle formatted session, will win an all-expenses paid trip to Mammoth.
A Freeski Slopestyle Demo by Sammy, Peter, and the rest of the coaches, will be showcasing the best talent from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The demo is open to the public and is free of charge. The awards for the day will follow this demo in The Snowflake Loft located in the main lodge at Snow Trails.
An event of this caliber will attract athletes from many states, not just the Midwest, aiming to improve their skill, attitude, and confidence in freeskiing. Jib will attract national attention and showcase the efforts and dedication of both Salomon and Snow Trails to the skiing industry.
One winner from each of the Jib Academy events in North America will meet up with the winners of the Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and France Jib Academies in Mammoth, California from May 7th through 12th. All athletes at the final will ski and interact with CR Johnson, Kaya Turski, Peter Olenick, Mark Abma, Charles Gagnier, Mike Douglas, Jen Hudak, and Sammy Carlson. Professional videographers and photographers will be on site to capture all events.
