We started off cautiously given the warmth just yesterday. And certainly lower down snow was not deep enough to cover ice. But found surprising amount of unor nearly untracked at time and still big patches of fun snow late into the day.

Felt like darn near no one skied Sam's Knob.

Hanging valley was still mix of soft snow and nearly untouched in the treed areas even very late...

Cirque was best...
Each to their own. Too long and hassle of a run out for most of the Cirque IMO. Much longer, steeper and useful vert in Hanging Valley for me 8/9 times out of 10.

That said, timing the poma opening just right (11:05a today) and getting 5th tracks in Cirque is definitely worth it.

Yes he's a kid; a 5 foot 11 inch kid.... it was deep in there.

Was just looking at the handful of pics and one vid I spent time taking on such a nice ski day. This is up top on a day with a 9" snow report...

Havent checked out hanging valley yet...
Heard its much steeper than cirque..which i found to be not that steep. AMF was cool!
KT gully was pretty steep...liked that one.

You want steep? Join Paul and us at Highlands Wednesday! Liz and I will likely be at Snowmass Thursday.

Both days we will see how much energy we have left. We emptied the tank on the 14-inch powder day at Beaver Creek yesterday.

It's really the first pitch of only 300 verts to get into Hanging Valley that is steep. But fairly open and easy to get in any of several different areas. Then traverse right and most of the vert is just very solid diamond in natural conditions.

Short initial pitch if you go past the first several more heavily skied entrances... Go hard right at the bottom for my favorite lower pitches.

Agreed on AMF being good well into the day. Few people will hoof the 5-10min slight uphill traverse. This was just below AMF at like 1p.

Patrol closing Hanging Valley two guys behind me (got so lucky with timing so often yesterday).

Only thing a bit spooky in the valley was going through the steep trees looking for an exit.
It turned out to be the best run of the week

Well..since im stuck here..might as well spend all the money i saved by not buying things i dont need and expensive food.
Bought a ticket..booked a level 9 lesson which i knew would turn into a private guide..it did.
Holy shit..he took me into some of the crazier stuff they have. Only an inch predicted!
Its been pounding all day!..at least 6 to 8 and more way up top. Poma was closed..think they were nuking the area.
He took me all over..totaly wiped out.
Trying to follow a 70 year old level 3 examiner was tough..nicest guy in the world but man can he fly.
