the best thing about being a dedicated right coast skier is that most folks think that it's always icy and all of the good pow skiing is in northern vermont. well, last march, like the whole month, and more often than most folks would ever imagine, nh was serving up some damn fine pow skiing. mt washington almost daily gets little bits of snow with an advantage of huge wind transport. here is one of many, many examples of what an inch or two on the summit can do to bring heli skiing quality for only a couple of skiers in an area that would dwarf an area like main or all of days fork for that matter. where is everyone? this was just one of 3 pow days in the same week up there this past march. link below.

The best powder day of my life was actually on the east coast. I must confess though, it was in northern vermont. Early last january I took my girlfriend up to burlington to get her into skiing. We went to bolton, where I put her in ski school where, we paid for a group lesson, but being as public schools were back in session, she basically had a private lesson. The day prior to our storm there had been a huge storm. They had closed one half of the mountain before the storm even hit, and then we we arrived they opened it up. I spent the whole day skiing untracked with two other guys, while my gf was learning how to ski on perfectly groomed snow. I must say skiing powder without competition is far more fun than biting your nails on a lift hoping nobody steals your line.
