Early February So. CA Storms?

This series of storms looks to be weaker and warmer than the one from a couple weeks back, but it looks to produce some snow:

This website isn't quite so generous about possible amounts of snow (yet):

Let's see if the storms strengthen as they get closer.

If the next storm cycle hits mid-week with more than 6" or so, I'm almost certain to hit Baldy. Would love to join anyone here who is interested in same. Help a rookie out, por favor. Admin can vouch for my ability to keep up.

Baldy's not hard to figure out.

First thing, ski the parking lot runs once or twice if the snow is decent. Chair 3 sometimes takes quite a while to open and you can get a run or two instead of standing around for 3 to begin spinning

Concentrate on Chair 3 and Thunder Mountain. I always scored big with a first run in the trees just to the skier's right of the lift. South Bowl is another focus. Ski anywhere, but don't miss the traverse out or you have to slog. (Like leaving the 20th hole at MRG, sucker lines tend to suck you down lower than you want to be). Head towards South Bowl, then hit a hard right and climb back over the ridge toward Chair 3 - there's a very cool natural half-pipe there called "The Tube" I think.

Ski the Gold Ridge trees. Duck into the trees pretty much anywhere...it's all good! The parking lot runs on the lift rider's left have very nice pitch and are really great when the snow is good. It's all about how low the snowline is in a particular storm.

Make sure to post pics!!!

If you're gonna do a lap or two on Chair 1...

  • get off the chair and go around the bullwheel
  • drop in facing the lift but immediately follow the traverse skier's left
  • the sidehill part of the traverse ends at an intersection
  • take the road at this point, it goes to the right of a fenced-off pond
  • when the road comes back around to the front, choose any line

Holy cow, that's beta! But Bernstein, take note:

Get off the chair and then go around the bullwheel. Don't reverse those steps. 8)

Nothing quite like a some soft, secluded turns in Morgan's. Well, I'm sure there are runs like that at many hills, but it's a Baldy must-do.

I'm considering Baldy on Sunday since mammoth for the weekend feels like a waste with fri/sat being storm days. Hopefully the storm comes in cold enough to snow to the parking lot on Friday, I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure.

I've been thinking about going Saturday, although the storm does seem warm at this point. Hard to tell until it actually comes.

Tail end of the storm looks to be colder , might get a good bit by Sun. Lets see .. some morning Baldy powder and then get back in time for the SuperBowl parties.. sounds good to me
