So wow..what an awesome day with great friends.
Bobby neglected to mention a few of the high points of the day..we were certainly not the only ones that were up there. When we arrived there was a group of younger (yeah im old) guys. I think 5 of them, the 4 in our group and just as one of the younger guys was dropping in 2 more guys showed up. So that put 11 of us at the top of main chute on August 6, 2011 at once. I was pretty shocked personally, but how often do you get to ski Main Chute this late? I guess its understandable.
Anyway....so this group of younger guys was there for a reason, and it wasn't only to ski main chute in august, but to ski main chute in august with no clothes on...well one of the brave guys anyway, not all. I can tell you THIS was not the view i expected when embarking on this journey..
Then came our turn....Bobby first...he cleaned out a bucnh of rocks for us \
/ Thanks bobby. Then I dropped skied down to bobby. The rocks he clean out also exposed a few and the choke had a nice big one right in the middle that needed slight negotiation. Then i turn to take some pics of the rest of the group and Jon decided it would be a good idea to test his self arrest skills in the middle of main chute. Instantly all i could think of was how are we going to stop him if he reaches us and hasnt stopped? Well he slid right towards the wall and right down into the crevasse...quiet the exciting experience. He came out unscathed. Becky proceeded without incident, though i think when she saw Jon in the crevasse she was less than excited about the rest of the ride down
anyway heres a few pics.
Bobby slays it out
Jon on his way out, unscathed
This is Jon in the choke right before he decided to see what the rocks looked like close up
Becky, sorry Beck, seems i always get "this shot" Ha...
Unfortunately for becky I didnt notice that for most of her shots I had accidentally flipped to manual focus, maybe when I put it in pack. Anyway this was the only clear one i got.
Well this ones a little fuzzy but shes slaying it...cmon..how many chicks do you know willing to hike for turns in August and a pretty hairy line at that...this was month 61 in a row for her.
Our tracks on the apron.
A parting shot on our way out as seen from Spring Valley
