This was a popular topic on our boards. What new ski areas do you hope to visit this season? My list is rather long:
  • Burke
  • Cannon
  • Magic
  • MRG
  • Sugarbush
  • Sunapee
Some definites will be Cannon, Magic and Sunapee. If I can work it out, I'd also like to plan a MRG/SB trip.

dunno how many of em i'll actually get to but here goes
gore
platekill
mss
titus
jay
kicking horse
sunday river
mrg

Places I wanna ski that arn't ski areas
tucks
marcy
phelps
azure
seven springs
anywhere else in the dacks the outting club goes

Places I've never been that I'd like to hit this year:
Burke
Sugarloaf

Would like to ski Sugarbush, but I have a pass at MRG and can never bring myself to shell out 60 bucks when I can ski next door for free.

Would also like to check out whiteface and other NY resorts but that's far enough that I doubt I'll make it this year.

And that's it. Though I've been to Cannon and Jay a lot and will give them a few more visits this year. Otherwise, it's all mad river.

A great place to spend the majority of your skiing time. I definitely need to spend a few days at MRG this season. Hoping to hook up with some FTOers who are locals because the best stuff at MRG isn't on any trail map. I'd like to spend another few days up at Jay and slip a few days at Stowe into the mix too. Other than that, it'll be my local hills like Hunter, Belleayre, and Plattekill.

Courmayeur, Grands Montets, Chamonix...

Maybe this spring...

Those are always on my wish list...unfortunately can't go to Europe every year.

I've been planning to go back to Cannon, Stowe, Smuggs and Tucks, maybe this year. Try Wildcat and a few small or lesser known areas in Quebec.

The sure things are always (not all where I wish to go, but some are more dictated by geography (ie. where I live and can I drive there from here):

Tremblant
Whiteface
the four amigos near Ottawa: Vorlage, Edelweiss, Fortune, Cascades
and Mad River Glen

All the stuff I didn't get to at Chamonix last year plus:

Tremblant, Killington, MRG, Mont Edouard.
Backcountry aspirations: Chamonix, Katahdin, Avalanche Pass in the Daks, Parc de la Gaspesie, and who knows what else :D

Big Jay's a trip. You may wish to head over with a knowledgeable local, or at the bare minimum follow tracks that seem to know what they're doing and pray they're not sucker tracks, for it's possible to get cliffed out over there. That said it's something like 2,300' of steep bliss...until the runout to Alpine Haven, that is.

Alas, it's not the dirty little secret that it used to be. Last time I was at Jay, I was shocked to see all the people scattered about on the side of 242 waiting for a pickup. Just like the rest of the Jay Peak experience it's starting to get a wee bit crowded back there.

not sure where you're talking about cause i've only been to Jay once and didn't do any gaping. that's to bad that that's happening up there. fresh tracks all gone to the gapers. sweet

i think NHPH might know his way around Jay a little better than those who you speak of...........waiting for a pickup. ???

anywho.....i hope to hit either cannon or wildcat while back for xmas for a week. maybe both, but don't want to push it. also like to hit stowe if the coverage is good up there. only have a few days free, so i'll do what i can.

last year, i went the small hill route to avoid the crowds. hit crotched and 10E. both a bad idea! crotched was better though. wicked expensive ticket too!!!!! 45 bucks i think it was(?). i think i would've rather dealt with crowds at wv or loon and did a little hiking. that's why i think cannon might be the first choice this year. we'll see. it depends.........kinda like the contingency model....."it depends". sorry. it's late

Dont worry, Marc.I would never make a backcountry trip like that w/o a knowledgeable bud that I trust.
The Dip is the lost treasure IMHO.Sign up with the ski school now and they will take you on a guided tour through the Dip complete with a ride back to the mountain. They are also quite willing to give extemely detailed info on how to find a few more stashes.

Mont Edouard

Mont Edouard was definately on the top of my lesser known areas in Québec list.

Alot of us are mentionning common areas (ie. MRG, Cannon, etc.), we should try to plan something at one point.

In addition to my East Coast parambulations, here are the three trips I've lined up for this season:

Montana and Eastern British Columbia:
Big Mountain, Fernie, Kimberley, Kicking Horse, Panorama, Turner

New Mexico:
Pajarito, Santa Fe, Red River, Sipapu, Angel Fire

Austria:
St. Anton, Lech, Zurs

Should be a good year to hit the SW, with the developing El Niño and all. Are you boarding? Why else would you pass up Taos in favor of Pajarito or Sipapu?

Santa Fe is a real sleeper in that neck of the woods -- it's a wonderful hill.

There'll be no shortage of FTOers who are locals at MRG, and others like me who aren't really local but just ski there a lot! But the great thing about that place is that literally every single patch of woods on the mountain (and I mean on the mountain, not just in the ski area!) has lines cut through it -- so it's actually pretty easy to explore w/o any local knowledge, though a topo map is useful o/b. And some of the truly local lines aren't lines but "lines".

Haven't gotten up to MRG since 1999, and my last trip there did not end well for me. A poor line choice in some woods I had never skied in before lead to injuries that knocked me off skis for 2 whole seasons :( . Must be a mental block or something because I go OB all the time everywhere else, but I just can't see myself going back to MRG and skiing the woods without some local leadership, at least my first time back. One of those mental things that screws your skiing up, but the urge to get back in there is too strong for me to let it go. Hopefully this "head case" tag won't stick and deter any of you who might like to hook up and take the lead.

No, not a boarder. I'm writing a New Mexico article and I've already been to Taos several times. Plus, it gets enough press.

I agree about Santa Fe.
