Many RSN forums are shut down...

It seems RSN shut down a bunch of forums over the weekend. Apparently, they are working on a new format:

My question was answered by the staff at RSN. I guess they are in the process of re-designing the forum section and have shut down certain forums while they do thier work. In November they are going to shut down all the forums and they don't expect to be up again for a few months.

I wonder if the exiles will flock to FTO, AZ, SnowJournal, and the like...?

Call me skeptical, but I question either 1) the information, or 2) RSN's true motive. If you're going to shut down all of the fora for design work that will take several months , why do so over the height of the ski season for every one of their forum clients?

I suspect that it has more to do with the content of the forum postings running counter to their advertisers' inclinations than anything else. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a means by which to veil the end of the RSN fora. We've already seen ASC pull down their Killington chat board, and Sugarloaf pull the plug on their RSN board due to unflattering postings, IIRC.

Only the well-behaved RSN denizens, please! AlpineZone and SnowJournal (the proprietor of which is known to some around here as CSB) are quality outfits, and while I wish RSN no ill will, I only hope that we all reap the benefits of (at least temporarily) closed fora at RSN.

ya. bummer about that whole gig. just 'constructive criticism', right? or maybe it was just tell it how it is. 'no bull'. it's nearly just trying to be social in our busy little lives as best we can. i don't expect rsn boards to be around much longer, but it is a helpful resource for info when you need it, or just to voice out opinions about resorts conditions and experiances and the like (while it's still there). gives the 'regular' people a voice. lot's of people i'm sure browse those forums to just look and read at what people are writing. some of the more popular rsn boards turned into, (how do i say this?), somewhat of forum jocks......if that's even a word or term. you know what i mean. not knocking the jocks by any means though. some entertaining conversations SOMETIMES. well, movin on over here a bit more i guess. i'll play nice, but some opinions just need to be voiced sometimes (good or bad), and it's just to hard to hold back for some of us. that's why the boards are here i suppose.

I also think the timing is incredibly bad for RSN fans. Why couldn't they develop the new forums in parallel with the old boards? I think we can all agree that the RSN forum software was obselete and lacked features, so if they are truly rolling out a new system, it should be an improvement. Too bad the ski season will be half over...

No matter, there are plenty of places to get your online ski fix...

We are currently in the process of re-designing the Forum Community Section. The first step in this process is to close all non-active forums. We have left several forums open for your enjoyment until November 1st, 2004. At that time, the community section will be closed except for those resorts that have made arrangements to keep their forum open. We anticipate the launching of our new Forum Community January 1, 2005. If you have any further questions, please contact rsncommunity.

Thank you!

quite a few of the RSN forums were particuluarly dead. or at least the mountains i like didn't have much activity i should say. burke, magic, black, wildcat, etc. had occasional posting but not much. i might have checked into RSN once a month during the ski season for an update on posts and what not. i wouldn't be too surprised to see folks flock to other forums, there's a wealth of information and quality posters and topics on the established new england forums on the net. it does seem odd to shut them down right when everyone is gearing up for winter instead of doing so during the summer.
