Breckenridge Rail Jam to Benefit Snowboarder Kevin Pearce’s Recovery

Breckenridge, CO – For the past seven years, Colorado’s Breckenridge Ski Resort has hosted the Massive Rail Jam benefit for Matt Wyffels, a competitive snowboarder who was paralyzed eight years ago. This year, Wyffels is paying it forward with 100% of entry fees from today’s competition going to another injured snowboarder, Kevin Pearce.nPearce, who sustained a head injury earlier this winter while in the halfpipe at Park City, Utah, practicing the complex double cork trick, is recovering at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colo., the same hospital where Wyffels spent time after his injury. Pearce continues to show a positive attitude and courage throughout his tough recovery.

The Matt Wyffels Rail Jam Open will be held today following the Massive Superpipe Open in the Freeway Terrain Park at the base of Breckenridge’s Peak 8. There will be prize money on the line for each rail, as well as giveaways and live music.

The benefit party will be held Saturday evening, at Cecilia’s nightclub in Breckenridge. Hosted by Olympic Bronze Medalist JJ Thomas, and other members of the Breckenridge Freeride Team, and featuring live DJ’s, Budweiser drink specials and giveaways, 100% of money raised at this event be donated to Pearce to aid in his recovery.

The Massive weekend at Breckenridge continues with the Style and Air Open held on the Freeway Terrain Park jump line on Saturday. Judges will be watching for style and massive air in order to take home this event’s prize purse.

The first annual 5 Peaks race also kicks off on Saturday. North America’s longest ski mountaineering race, it features 10,000 feet of climbing on five separate peaks in Colorado’s Ten Mile Range, including terrain within Breckenridge Ski Resort. The massive competition weekend finishes off with the Park Lane Terrain Park Slopestyle Open held on Peak 8 on Sunday. A cash purse is on the line with each rider being judged on overall style, technical difficulty and creativity.
