Provo Canyon, UT – Jerry Warren, Director of Sundance Resort’s Mountain Operations, was inducted into the National Ski Instructors Hall of Fame in Sun Valley, Idaho, on April 10th. Inductees to the Hall of Fame are honored for their significant contribution and instrumental role in the development of professional ski instruction. Members of the Hall of fame include Alf Engen, Junior Bounous, Keith Lange, and Pepi Stiegler, among others.nWarren was presented the highest national ski teacher’s honor — the National Lifetime Achievement Award — at the PSIA National Academy at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort in Utah. He was only the 10th recipient of this award in the 50-year history of PSIA.

“Jerry’s contribution, not only to Sundance but to the sport of skiing is phenomenal. We at Sundance are very fortunate that Jerry chose to make Sundance the home of his magical teaching and a place to offer his gift of instruction and guidance to others. He is very deserving of his esteemed place in the Hall of Fame,” commented Chad Linebaugh, Sundance General Manager.

Warren is a native of nearby Springville, Utah. In 1967, while attending Brigham Young University, he began his ski teaching carrier at Timp Haven ski area located in Provo Canyon, which would later become the Sundance Resort. In 1968, Warren became the assistant Ski School director at Timp Haven.

In 1969, he won the amateur division of the Alta National Gleande Jump. When Snowbird was preparing to open in the spring of 1971, Warren was invited by Junior Bounous, the resort’s ski school director, to assist him in running the ski school, which he did for the next 17 years.

In 1974, Warren was selected as a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) National Demonstration Team. As a member of the team, he participated in the International Ski Congress (Interski) held in Czechoslovakia in 1975, at Zao, Japan in 1979, at Sesto, Italy in 1983 and Banff, Canada in 1987. As a member of the PSIA Education staff, Warren also attended the 1991 Interski in Austria and the 1995 Interski in Nozawa Onsen, Japan.

Warren has written for many ski publications including SKI, Skiing, Snow County, Powder magazine and the PSIA Professional Journal. He was a primary writer of skiing articles and pointers as well as the primary demonstrator of SKI magazine’s “ski pointers” from 1975-1987. He has been featured in many skiing films, some for PSIA and other professional moviemakers, including Warren Miller’s “Color of Skiing” which also featured Bounous.

In the mid 1980’s, Warren served as the chair of the PSIA National Steering Committee and the National Vice President of Education. He was a primary author of the 1992 and 1996 PSIA Alpine Skiing manuals. Along with the support of the demonstration teams, Education and Certification committees, Warren became the primary author of the “Center Line” and its supporting skills connection approach to ski teaching theory.

In 1992, Warren assumed the position of Snow Sports Director at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon. He remained in that position until 1994. He then spent two years using skiing performance principles to teach leadership principles to resort management across the country. In 1996, he returned to Sundance Resort as Director of Skiing and of Mountain Operations, which includes all recreational opportunities, ski coachng and the operation of the mountain.
