McCall, ID – Brundage Mountain Resort announced this morning that the Idaho ski area will reopen next Saturday for one more day of skiing and snowboarding for the 2009-2010 winter season, marking only the second time the resort has opened in May during its nearly 50-year history.nFollowing the success of two Bonus Weekends already this spring, Brundage Mountain will remain closed mid-week and then open for its final day of the season, Saturday, May 1.

A surge in snowfall which brought 19 inches of snow during the first two weeks of April, on top of two feet of snow that fell at the end of March, enabled Brundage Mountain officials to make the decision to go for one more day.

Brundage will be the only ski resort in Idaho operating in May.

“We normally shut down after the second Sunday in April,” said resort spokeswoman April Russell, “but our slope coverage continues to be excellent, so we couldn’t resist staying open as many extra weekends as possible.”

The weather forecast calls continued cool temperatures and for five to 10 inches of new snow mid-week, just in time to make closing day even better for all the die-hard skiers and boarders.

“We wanted to show extra appreciation to our valued season pass holders by staying open as long as we can, giving them as many days as possible to make some turns,” Russell continued.

Currently, the resort has a 51-inch snow base at the lodge and 72-inch snow base at the summit.

Children 11 years of age and under will ride the lifts for free at Brundage on Saturday. Additionally, Brundage will offer $44 full-day lift tickets to adults between the ages of 18 and 69. $27 full-day lift tickets will be offered to those between the ages of 12 and 17 and aged 70 or above.

Brundage will celebrate skiing in May, and the final day of the season, by hosting an End of Season Party on closing day. Food and beer will be served and the occasion.
