Salt Lake City, UT – Boutique ski manufacturer DPS has announced its second DPS Rider’s Weekend, and the first in Las Leñas, Argentina, from Aug. 21-22, 2010. The event will gather those with a passion for big mountains and powder to hang out, ski, tell stories, share meals, talk shop, and enjoy one another’s company.nIt’s a “freerider’s Sturgis” in the company’s own words, reference the annual motorcyclist gathering in South Dakota. The inaugural DPS Rider’s Weekend was held at Jackson Hole, Wyo., last February.
DPS has strong roots in Las Leñas. Company founder Stephan Drake spent his first full season skiing in Las Leñas while working as a dishwasher at the Hotel Aquario. Eight full seasons of big mountain skiing ensued, and together with Cyrille Boinay, Drake started DB Skis in the middle of the night at the Atenas Wine Bar. Much of the shaping philosophy and traveling culture at DPS stems from Drake’s powder experience in Las Leñas.
“Las Leñas is one of the world’s premier freeriding spots,” says Drake. “It will be a treat to ride powder in August with new and old friends alike.”
DPS Rider’s Weekend Las Leñas does not provide amenities or lodging discounts. However, select demo opportunities will likely be available for those anxious to try 2010/11 skis. DPS will coordinate ski meet-up times, skiing, dinner, and disco outings, and in the interim will also help answer any logistical questions regarding transportation, lodging, and lift tickets to make the trip south trip easier.
