Roxbury, NY – The KHS Gravity Open, the only downhill mountain bike race for UCI points this season in the East, and also a Junior World qualifier and the first race of the season in the all-new Eastern States Cup series, runs from today through the weekend at Plattekill ski area in New York State’s Catskill Mountains.nOn-site registration opens at noon today. Entry fees are $90 for Pros (including a Friday lift ticket), $65 for Cat1, $55 for Cat2 and $50 for Cat3. All entries include Saturday and Sunday lift tickets, while Pro entry also includes a Friday ticket and lunch on Saturday. Discounts are available for Thursday, Friday and Monday tickets to all registered contestants. USA Cycling licenses are required, and annual and one-day licenses will be available onsite.
Cash prizes will be handed out to the pros, while amateur winners will receive new KHS bikes as prizes. All classes will receive custom 2010 Eastern States Cup medals. On top of our cash payouts, NEMA has partnered to pay cash to the top three in all race classes through the NEMA Cash Contingency Program which pays racers who wear NEMA products and list as a sponsor.
Spectators are welcome to ride the triple chair for $5 per ride. The ski area’s double chair will operate all weekend for recreational riding and racer freeriding. Those not competing, but who prefer to ride the trails all day may purchase lift tickets for $30 per day.
Spectators and competitors alike who intend to stay the weekend may camp at the base of the mountain for $10 per site per night. Portable toilets will be placed in the camping area, and running water will be available in the ski area’s Base Lodge. While no electricity will be provided, generators will be allowed until 10 p.m.
