Kirkwood to Reopen for July 4th Skiing and Snowboarding

Kirkwood, CA – California skiers and riders will be able to celebrate the quintessential summer holiday on snow, as California’s Kirkwood Mountain Resort will offer skiing and snowboarding on the menu of its Independence Day weekend festivities.nIn addition to mountain biking, barbeques and more, the ski area’s Chairs 1 and 2 will open for skiing and riding on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Then, on Sunday, check out the action in the Avalanche Cup – a race designed for skiers and snowboarders in Thunder Saddle starting at 9:30 a.m. Chair 6 will also turn for skiing and riding, and scenic chair rides on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lift tickets will cost $32 for a full day of access or $22 for a half day starting at 12:30 p.m. Hiker tickets (no skis, boards, or bikes) are $10 to ride thhe lifts. Those who have already purchased a 2010-11 season pass may upgrade it for $59 to include access for skiing and riding on Fourth of July weekend as well as a full summer of mountain bike access.

Registration for The Avalanche Cup 2010 is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 3 and will open at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday for day-of registration. The cost to compete is $42 total – $32 for your full day lift ticket and $10 for your spot in the race.
The course will be on Thunder Saddle and maps will be provided at registration for athletes and spectators.

Saturday night’s festivities will be highlighted by the Annual Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department BBQ, followed by live music from The Kingtones from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by traditional fireworks.
