Portillo Ski Season Debut Delayed

Portillo, Chile – Low snowfall has forced officials at Chile’s Ski Portillo to delay opening by a week, now scheduled for July 26.n”We were forced to make the decision after analyzing the various short term snow forecasts, but believe it is necessary to provide sufficient time for guests with reservations the week of the 19 to organize alternate travel arrangements,” ski area officials said Tuesday in a prepared statement.

As of press time, Portillo has received a meter of snowfall so far this year. Snow depth at the Hotel Portillo is presently reported as 40 cm (16 inches).
