Park City to Expand Night Skiing, Snowmaking

Park City, UT – The Park City Planning Commission on Wednesday approved Park City Mountain Resort’s plan to expand night skiing operations to the ski area’s Three Kings lift. In addition, the runs serviced by the lift — Three Kings, Quicksilver and Pick ‘n Shovel — will receive snowmaking, and existing night skiing terrain off the PayDay and First Time lifts will benefit from brighter, more energy-efficient lighting.nThe new lighting will expand night skiing at Park City Mountain by 23 percent. The newly-lit area includes the resort’s intermediate Pick ‘n Shovel terrain park which will double in size. All upgrades will be complete in time for the 2010-11 winter season.

The resort is currently replacing its existing 1500-watt quartz light fixtures with 150-watt metal halide models, which will save an estimated 138 million kilowatts per year and deliver a whiter light for improved visibility. Installation of the new light fixtures in the expanded terrain will take place once the current upgrade project is completed.
