Mountain High Retreats from Non-Permitted Ski Terrain

Wrightwood, CA – Mountain High Resort allowed access into a 35-acre adjacent drainage called Sugar Bowl last winter. The hitch is that Sugar Bowl isn’t part of Mountain High’s permit area and the opening was done without U.S. Forest Service (USFS) approval.nThe USFS has therefore pulled the plug on skiing and riding in Sugar Bowl going forward. Mountain High officials say that last winter’s opening was inadvertent even though a number of trees were cut to facilitate a return to the resort.

The ski area operates within the Angeles National Forest by permit. The area will be signed this winter, indicating that Sugar Bowl is out of bounds, and officials of both Mountain High and the Angeles National Forest are requesting that users of the resort observe all posted signs and do not venture out of bounds.
