Alta Lodge’s Ski Clinic Offerings Expanded to Include Gordy Peifer

Alta, UT – With winter fast approaching, Alta Lodge has announced its ski clinic schedule for this season at the famed Utah resort.nNew this season at Alta Lodge is a three-day, four night camp with famed big mountain skier Gordy Peifer, an Alta local who has appeared in more than 20 ski films. Called “All Mountain Ski Adventures”, Peifer’s camp, scheduled for the height of the season Feb. 9-13, includes lodging, breakfasts and dinners at Alta Lodge, located at the base of Alta Ski Area.

“Gordy’s camps typically do not include this, so this camp will appeal to skiers who don’t want to hassle with all of the logistics outside of skiing — lodging, meals, transportation to and from the ski area, etc.,” says Alta Lodge Marketing Director, Joni Dykstra.

Skiers will challenge themselves on the legendary terrain at Alta and nearby Snowbird, improving their skiing with expert video analysis and learning unique aspects of the Wasatch Mountains from recognized experts.

“We’ve geared this camp toward advanced and expert skiers who want to ramp up their skiing. We’ll search out the coolest terrain and the best snow conditions, and maximize every learning opportunity,” says Peifer. “This accelerated camp is for skiers who want a unique three-day experience that is a lot of fun for everyone.”

Rates for the three-day, four-night package are $2,139 per person, double occupancy, for a standard double room or $2,742 for single occupancy, standard double room.

Those who are looking for an early jump-start on their skiing season can book the Alta Performance Ski Camp, being held this season Dec. 7-11, 2010. three-day camp, led by Stephen Helfenbein and Dr. Collin Bywaters, will take skiers to expert terrain to employ all-mountain ski tactics and techniques. The camp takes a progressive approach to coaching skiers off the hill as well, instructing them about dry land training for better skiing fitness.

“This camp takes skiers who are already comfortable with most of the terrain at Alta and Snowbird. We coach the skiers to adapt their skiing to the terrain and changes in snow conditions,” says Helfenbein.

The camp includes four nights of lodging, full breakfast and four-course dinner daily. The camp cost is $1,923 for standard double occupancy and $2,399 for single occupancy. Other types of rooms are available at different rates.

The Yoga Backcountry Ski Retreat with Utah Mountain Adventures lead guide Winslow Passey is scheduled for Jan. 5-9, 2011 this season. The retreat combines yoga instruction with backcountry ski outings. Participants will learn about and use the principles of body alignment and self awareness taught in yoga and then integrate them into skiing. In Passey’s words, “I strive to increase self awareness among participants to help them establish a connection to their surroundings so they can maximize their fun and enjoyment.”

The retreat includes three days of skiing in the backcountry surrounding Alta Ski Area and five yoga sessions. Four nights of lodging and meals are included, along with guide fees and a lift ticket to Alta Ski Area. Interested participants should have good fitness, enjoy hiking and have intermediate to expert level skiing skills. Yoga experience and backcountry skiing experience are not required. The all-inclusive package price of $1,952 per person is for a standard room, double occupancy. Single occupancy rooms are available for an additional price. Backcountry ski equipment is available to rent.

Alta Lodge’s Powder Tracks Powder Ski Camp, taking place Jan. 8-13, 2011, is a unique ski program to make it easier, faster and more fun to learn to ski Alta’s famous powder snow. Participants will spend the day with instructors from Alta’s renowned Alf Engen Ski School, whose seasoned instructors provide coaching and show skiers how to have fun on the mountain while learning how to find the best snow. If guests choose to extend their stay to test their new skills, Alta Lodge will arrange a day of heli-skiing or snowcat skiing as an add-on to the package.

“The goal of Powder Tracks is to increase skill, build confidence and have fun in the off-trail environment. After completing the program, participants find that the mountain opens up for them as they are able to ski places they never thought they could or would,” sys Dave “Hoopa” Robinson, director of the Alf Engen Ski School.

The Powder Tracks package includes five nights lodging, full breakfast and gourmet dinners, four days of ski instruction, four days of lift tickets at Alta and powder-specific demo skis and boots from The Deep Powder House Ski Shop. Prices are $2,665 per person for double occupancy and $3,384 for single occupancy. Rates for economy accommodations are also offered.

Finally, Alta Lodge’s Women’s Ski Camps take place twice this winter, Jan. 20-24 and Mar.31-Apr. 4, 2011. Just for women, the Alta Lodge Women’s Ski Camp brings together the best of the Alf Engen Ski School’s women’s instructors for three days of instruction and four nights of lodging, two yoga sessions, breakfasts and dinners.

This intensive clinic is designed for the intermediate through advanced level skier who is ready for new challenges in ski terrain and conditions. The group camaraderie starts the first night when everyone meets for dinner the evening before the on-the-hill session begins. During that time, information will be presented about the latest women-specific skis before participants select the skis they want to use for the camp. New this season, Alta Lodge has added two yoga sessions. The group will meet daily for après ski, dinner, and breakfast.

The January camp cost is $2,116 per person for standard double occupancy and $2,691 for single occupancy; tax and service charge are included. March rates are $2,069 per person for standard double occupancy and $2,620 for single occupancy. Other types of rooms are available at different rates.
