Wagar Leads U.S Snowboarders in Junior World PGS

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand – Italy’s Edwin Coratti and Ukraine’s Annamari Chundak took home gold in the parallel giant slalom (PGS) race at the 2010 Snowboard Junior World Championships, held Thursday at Snow Park NZ near Lake Wanaka.nIn the women’s competition, Chundak led the race, claiming the win. Switzerland’s Julie Zogg and Austria’s Ina Meschik scored silver and bronze. Cassie Wagar, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., finished first for the U.S., just shy of the top 15 in 16th place. Meghan Graham, of Minnetonka, Minn., finished in 22nd.

Coratti beat the men’s field, clinching victory. Russia’s Konstantin Shipilov and Germany’s Stefan Baumeister joined Coratti on the podium in second and third. Mack Joyce, of Laconia, N.H., was the top U.S. male finisher in 22nd, three spots ahead of fellow Junior Worlds teammate Hunter Murphy, of Deephaven, Minn., in 25th.
