Queenstown, New Zealand – Ben Griffin and Sarah Jarvis were crowned the men’s and women’s 2010 Champions, respectively, as top alpine ski racers went head-to-head Tuesday in their battle for the New Zealand national giant slalom (GS) honors. The race was held on a challenging course at Coronet Peak near Queenstown.nGriffin, of Ohakune, ended tied for fourth overall against a strong international field. The race was won by the Sweden’s Jon Olsson. Espen Lysdahl of Norway, won the silver medal, while David Chodunsky of United States took bronze.
Jessica Lindell or Sweden, won gold in the women’s GS. Slovakia’s Veronika Zuzulova secured silver and Lotte Smiseth Sejersted of Norway finished wth bronze.
Whakapapa’s Sarah Jarvis secured the title of New Zealand’s Women’s GS Champion by finishing first amongst the kiwis and 15th overall.
Racing action at the 2010 New Zealand National Ski Championships continues Wednesday with men’s and women’s slalom at Coronet Peak.
