Les Gets, France –Two new lifts will greet skiers and riders this winter at Les Gets, part of the giant Portes du Soleil complex straddling the French/Swiss border.nThe Chavannes bubble lift has received a $4.5 million euro facelift for the 2010-11 winter. Still sporting the lift’s historic red paint, the new six-passenger
bubbles allow for a quicker ride and less waiting time as they have increased the lift’s capacity from 900 to 1500 per hour. Access to the cable car is easier, particularly for beginners as it is now all on one level thanks
to a new station designed by Poma.
The lift reconstruction was only part of the complete
renovation of the resort’s Chavannes area. The
departure point of the Boule de Gomme
surface lift, the first automatic release
draglift ever installed in France in 1936, has been repositioned slightly to allow beginners to ski more easily from the ESF (Ski
school) to the cable car. The upper ski slopes on Carry will also be
regraded to level and widen the existing ski run.
A new chairlift is also being installed in the Chamossiere ski area. The area’s advanced terrain will now be served by a new six-pack chairlift that replaces both the Blanchots draglift and the old
Chamossiere triple chairlift. The new lift will now take five to seven minutes to reach the summit, which is the link to the Morzine ski area with
breathtaking panoramic views of
Mont Blanc.
The new lift is 1239.90m long and rises 508.30 vertical meters. It has a capacity of 2160 people per hour.
