Rockslide Severs Access to Treble Cone

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand – A rockslide that officials say may be related to the massive New Zealand earthquake centered near Christchurch covered the road to Treble Cone ski area near Wanaka on Sunday, cutting off access to the resort.nThe slide was discovered by a groomer operator heading to work at the ski area early Sunday morning. Officials worked diligently on Sunday to remove 350 cubic meters of rock and debris from the road.

Treble Cone remained closed on Sunday due to the incident. Operations at other ski areas in the region were curtailed Sunday due to rain and strong, gusty winds.
