Methven, New Zealand – Norwegians Espen Lysdahl and Lotte Smiseth Sejersted stood atop the podium Friday in the final super combined ski race of the Australia-New Zealand Cup (ABC) at Mt. Hutt ski area near Methven.nLysdahl (1:43.04) was joined by teammate Kristian Haug (1:43.83) and the U.S.A.’s Wiley Maple (1:44.15) on the podium. Queenstown’s Tim Cafe was the top New Zealander in seventh in 1:45.42.
Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal finished the morning’s Super G ahead of the field in 1:03.30. Lysdahl was second in 1:03.38, and teammate Iver Bjerkestrand (1:03.48) was third.
Ohakune, New Zealand’s Ben Griffin posted a time of 1:03.93 to tie for fourth in the super G. The next fastest Kiwi in the super G was Tim Cafe, who finished 11th in 1:05.03. Cafe’s solid slalom run moved him up the leaderboard in the afternoon.
Sejersted set the standard for the women, winning easily in a combined 1:46.26. Russian teammates Anastasia Kedrina (1:48.63) and Anna Sorokina (1:48.64) filled out the podium. Top New Zealanders were Taylor Rapley in eighth in a combined 1:50.27 and Sarah Jarvis in 13th in 1:51.96.
In the women’s super G, Sejersted repeated her performance from Thursday, finishing first in 1:06.16, followed by teammate Chloe Margrethe Fausa (1:07.35) and Russia’s Vladislava Bureeva (1:07.63).
Queenstown’s Rapley had the best New Zealand result in the super G, finishing eighth in 1:08.67. Whakapapa’s Jarvis and Alexandra McGlinn (Christchurch) finished 14th and 15th in the super G.
The Australia-New Zealand Cup series continues Saturday at Mt. Hutt with the giant slalom.
