Salt Lake City, UT – The latest crop of ski and snowboard movies is currently screening across the U.S., which only means that winter can’t be far behind. Those obsessed with winter are the focus of “Wintervention,” the latest offering from Boulder, Colo.-based Warren Miller Entertainment, which will make its world debut Oct. 19 in Orem, Utah, before heading across the U.S. on a 240-city nationwide tour.nShot on location in Antarctica, Austria’s Arlberg region, the Columbia Mountains of British Columbia, Vail, Heavenly, Breckenridge, the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, New Zealand, Telluride, southern Utah’s red rock desert, Alaska, Norway and more, “Wintervention” possibly showcases a more diverse list of skiing locales around the world than any Warren Miller movie to date. It’s all tied together by narration from moguls guru Jonny Moseley, who takes on the personal of a radio talk show host fielding calls from those hopelessly addicted to snow sports.

“Our additions to snow-covered hills and the experiences we have there are actually good for us — in moderation,” explains Max Bervy, director and executive producer of the film. “In a world where the chaotic pace seems to increase daily, it’s the skiers and the snowboarders who actually have it right, guaranteeing they’re never far from clean mountain air, deep powder and the good life lived in the mountains.”
We screened an advance copy of the film, Warren Miller Entertainment’s 61st annual offering, and while some of the segments run a bit too long and Moseley’s talk show host persona is cheesy, “Wintervention” features the stunning ski and snowboard cinematography for which Warren Miller Entertainment’s films are known. The sequences of Kip Garre, Andrew McLean, John Morrison and Doug Stoup skiing Antarctic icebergs and mountains from a home base aboard a ship are nothing short of breathtaking. Reggie Crist and Lexi DuPont hole themselves up in a base camp tent on a Norwegian island to ski 24 hours a day under round the clock sunlight. In between, Eric Themel, Phil Meier, Stephan Maurer and Richard Permin handle the cultural complexities of skiing in the eastern European mountains in Georgia, and Reggie Crist joins is brother Zach and DuPont to slay the red rock spires of southern Utah draped in inordinately deep powder last season. Other athletes featured in the film include New Zealand freeskiing sensation Jossi Wells and his American counterpart Zach Black, the recently departed Arne Backstrom, as well as Hugo Harrison, Andy Mahre, Norwegian snowboarder Torstein Horgmo, Will Lavigne, Lindsey Vonn, Chris Davenport, JP Auclair, Pep Fujas, TJ Schiller, Moseley himself and more.
Warren Miller movie screenings typically include drawings for door prizes and lift tickets to neighboring resorts, and this season’s film tour is no exception. It launches Oct. 19 at the Xango Grand Theater at Orem, Utah’s SCERA Center before embarking upon its U.S. odyssey.
