Snowshoe, WV – Snowshoe Mountain has named Ken Gaitor as the West Virginia ski and snowboard resort’s new snowmaking and grooming manager. Ken joins the Snowshoe team after many years at Mount Snow, Vt., including overseeing the Carinthia parks project.nGaitor, a native of Summer County, W.V., began snowboarding while attending college in New York State, translating his love for skateboarding onto the slopes of Southern Vermont. After a move to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1996, Gaitor began his career as a Terrain Park Manager and grooming operator. During the next six seasons, he became a respected industry veteran in Utah, while spending summers on the New and Gauley Rivers in West Virginia.

After a year off in 2003 following the birth of his daughter, Gaitor accepted his position as Freestyle Terrain Manager at Mount Snow. After four years of winters in Vermont and summers in West Virginia, he transitioned into a year-round position with Mount Snow as work began on the Carinthia project. For the past two years, Ken has headed up the project, which created the East Coast’s most highly regarded terrain park with 100 acres, 125 features and two pipes.

Gaitor is excited to join the Snowshoe Mountain team, returning to his home state and continuing to pursue his life’s passions.

“Put me in a snow cat, on my boards or in my boat and I am a happy man,” he explains.

Gaitor officially begins his new post today, reporting to Snowshoe’s Ski Operations Manager, Dave Huber. The resort began snowmaking efforts over the weekend with plans to open for its 37th winter season on Nov. 24.
