Lake Louise, Canada – The ski and snowboard season is now open in Canada as Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta opened this morning.nSkiers and snowboarders got first tracks today at The Lake Louise Ski Area within Banff National Park. The resort’s Glacier Express Chair opened at 9 a.m., offering access to skiing and riding on the Wiwaxy, Bald Eagle and Easy Street runs.
Nearby Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay will both be opening soon, local tourism officials indicate. Norquay had earlier planned to open Oct. 30 before that date was postponed.
The La Nina weather system currently in place is forecast to bring higher than average snowfall to the Canadian Rockies throughout this winter.
