Stratton Mountain, VT – With few boardercross courses on the East Coast, gaining the confidence to get the hole shot and lead the pack into the first turn can be a long process. This December, Vermont’s Stratton Mountain Resort is hosting the first annual Ross Powers Boardercoss Camp, a chance to learn to ride with the pack from a leader of the U.S. boardercross pack.nPowers, a two time Olympic medalist and Stratton Mountain School Snowboarding Program Director, will return to southern Vermont fresh from the U.S. Snowboardcross Cup in Telluride. Powers and his coaches will work participants through every step of the boardercross race. From launching from the starting gate to picking a clean line, campers will leave with a 360 degree understanding of how to best maneuver the boardercross course.

“It feels really good to be back home at Stratton, teaching others on the mountain where I trained,” said Powers. “Boardercross is one of the most exciting events out there, it’s just so hard to make strides as a competitor without the right training. I’m looking forward to bringing together some of the area’s top competitors and coaches to share everything we’ve learned with the next generation of boardercross riders.”

The coaching roster includes Powers, Ben Jacobellis, a former World Cup boardercross competitor and the older brother who introduced Olympian Lindsey Jacobellis to snowboarding and the competition circuit, and Raschid Joyce, Head Coach of the Stratton Snowboard Competition Team. Lindsey Jacobellis will be home in southern Vermont for the holidays and is planning to join in on the coaching. The camp, held on Dec. 22-23, includes two full days of coaching, lunches and a dinner and video session with Powers. The cost of the camp is $299, or $199 for Stratton seasonal program participants. Lift tickets are a discounted $25 per day. Participants must be 10 years of age or older.

Last winter, Lindsey Jacobellis took an early morning ride with grooming expert Al Desroches and Parks Manager Eric Langman with suggestions for improvements to the course on East Byrneside. Stratton has taken those edits into account, along with the input of Powers, to create the most realistic snowboardcross experience possible.
