Dusseldorf, Germany – The powerful Norwegian men’s team of Ola Vigen Hattestad and Anders Gloeersenn won the 6×1.6k cross country skiing World Cup free technique sprint Sunday over rival Sweden in a hard won fight. The U.S. Ski Team fielded two squads, finishing 21st and 23rd. The race was run through the city of Duesseldorf along the Rhine.nUSA 1 featured Simi Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.) and Andy Newell (Shaftsbury, Vt.) finishing 21st, while the USA 2 squad of Torin Koos (Leavenworth, Wash.) and Chris Cook (Rhinelander, Wisc.) ended up 23rd.

In the women’s battle the duo of Italy’s Magda Genuin and the powerful Arianna Follis, who won here last year, took top honors over the Norwegian team of Caspersen Falla and Celine Brun-Lie.

The Canadian team of Daria Gaiazova and Olympic medalist Chandra Crawford qualified fourth and then went on to take third place overall, with Crawford having the second fastest time for her last lap.

No U.S. Ski Team women took part in the team sprint.
