Salt Lake City, UT – Black Diamond Equipment, Ltd. has recalled a limited number of its packs equipped with AvaLung safety gear, citing air intake tubing that the company says may break during cold weather.nThe Salt Lake City-based equipment maker is voluntarily recalling a certain production run of its 2010 AvaLung-equipped packs, which can be identified by the following PO and model number combination:

Company officials urge that any AvaLung Pack that falls within the criteria above should be immediately returned to Black Diamond for replacement. Owners will be without their AvaLung for the majority of this winter, however, for the company indicates that they anticipate replacing the defective units by the end of March 2011. The replacements will bear a mark confirming that the product has been fixed.
