California Snowboarder Found Dead at Blackcomb

Whistler (BC), Canada – A 20-year-old Windsor, Calif. man was found dead Christmas Day on Blackcomb Mountain.nThe Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) indicate that Cooper Plaxco was snowboarding on Friday afternoon on Blackcomb Mountain before failed to rendezvous with family members around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Crystal Chair. He was found around 10 a.m. Saturday morning in a small wooded area between the bases of the ski resort’s Jersey Cream and Crystal lifts.

It is believed that the victim perished in a fast flowing creek in which he was found by search dogs face down underwater with his snowboard still attached to his feet. Ski area officials indicate that the creek was concealed by a snow bridge. Plaxco was reported by family members to be an expert snowboarder and skateboarder.

Authorities with the RCMP and the B.C. Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the cause of the death, which is the first at Whistler Blackcomb this season.
