Ski Instructor Hits Tree, Dies at Montana’s Discovery

Anaconda, MT – A 21-year-old Philipsburg, Mont. man died Tuesday after hitting a tree while skiing at Discovery Ski Area near Anaconda.nJames Adie, a Discovery ski instructor for the past five years, was skiing the intermediate Claim Jumper run on the resort’s front side Tuesday morning when he lost control and struck a tree on the side of the trail. He was wearing a helmet at the time and was not teaching.

Adie was transported to a hospital in Missoula where he was pronounced dead. The Missoula County Sheriff’s office indicates that Adie died of blunt force trauma.
