Innsbruck, Austria – Canadian World Cup ski racer Louis-Pierre Hélie continues to improve after losing consciousness and suffering from a concussion in Tuesday’s downhill training run in Bormio, Italy.nWhile Hélie continues to be monitored by Canadian Alpine Ski Team physicians, he was transferred Wednesday to the trauma center in Innsbruck for assessment by Neurosurgical specialists there before being discharged from the hospital on Thursday.
“A follow up CT scan has indicated a stable brain injury that will hopefully continue to improve from a neurologic perspective and he has remained alert and in good spirits,” said Team Doctor Dr. Stephen French.
“While the athlete’s neurologic perspective is improving, unfortunately he appears to have sustained a significant left knee injury in the same crash and he will be returning to Canada for assessment and treatment of a suspected ACL tear at the first opportunity. The athlete’s return to competition remains uncertain at this time,” added Dr. French.
