Salt Lake City, UT – The Westminster College campus in Salt Lake City will look a little different come Thursday morning. What once was just the college’s Jewett parking lot will be filled with snow, and rails of all shapes and sizes- long, arched, kinked, straight, skinny and wide, transforming the area into a small terrain park. It’s all so Westminster students can show off some of their talents outside the four walls of the classroom at the Utah college’s second annual Hart Rail Jam.n“We know our students perform at an exceptional level on the slopes, but it’s hard to bring the campus to the mountain,” explained Karl Gerner, vice president of Associated Students of Westminster College. “The obvious solution is to bring the mountain to campus.”
The Hart Rail Jam will feature Westminster skiers and snowboarders who will compete for top prizes in the men’s and women’s categories. Contestants will be judged on how well they hit the rails and execute any tricks they do.
Guest judges from sponsoring companies Hart and Galvanic Designs along with student judges will score the Westminster riders. Students interested in qualifying for the contest were required to submit a video to Galvanic Designs highlighting their skills to ensure they had what it takes to compete in the Rail Jam.
“This event is sure to draw a crowd. The atmosphere is going to be great- music, the campus coming together to see what the student competitors can pull out of their trick bags,” said Gerner. “It’s a great way to start the year.”
