Truckee, CA – Reno local David Wise took home top honors for men’s ski pipe, and Canadian Dania Assaly secured it for the women at The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series competition held Monday at California’s Northstar-at-Tahoe ski resort. Stand-out Matt Margetts, who came in second after stomping a huge double flip will be heading to the X-Games after securing an invitation based on his points in Monday’s competition; Maddie Bowman has secured an alternate spot.n“The athletes in the pipe finals threw down runs that were top level for any competition,” said Head Judge Steele Spence.

With a best of three runs format, Wise scored high in his second run with a 94.2, which featured a left 9 to a right 9, a double whiskey to an alley oop flat spin 3, switch left 7 to an alley oop flat spin 5, ending with a cork 1080 mute grab. Margetts followed in second place with 91.4 and and relative newcomer Patrick Baskins in third with 90.8.

Assaly crashed in her first run, but landed her second with a 90.0 and pulled out a left 5 to a right 5 and a big, left 720 with style. Following her for the women was fellow Canadian Keltie Hansen with an 88.4, and Saturday’s women’s slopestyle champ Devin Logan placed third with an 87.0. Logan was the only woman to pull off back-to-back inverted rotations.

“It was great to see pro-level athletes and amateurs alike showcasing progressive tricks” said Katie Ramage, Senior Sports Marketing Manager for The North Face. “What’s so unique about The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series, is it provides the opportunity for pros to compete for a spot in the X-Games, and amateurs the opportunity to prove themselves against seasoned pros.”
