CVA Student Killed Skiing at Sugarloaf

Carrabassett Valley, ME – A 16-year old student at a Maine ski academy was killed in a Saturday accident at Sugarloaf ski resort.nJoshua Waldron, a member of the freestyle program at Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA), was skiing the resort’s expert Hayburner run on Saturday when he crashed into snowmaking equipment. The run was freshly groomed Friday night. It is unclear whether or not he was participating in CVA-sponsored training at the time.

Waldron’s father, a Sugarloaf ski instructor, was teaching a lesson on a nearby trail when the incident occurred. Sugarloaf ski patrollers administered CPR during transport to the mountain’s first aid room, but he was pronounced dead around noon on Saturday.

A candlelight vigil was held Monday at CVA to mourn Waldron’s death.
