Kitzbuehel, Austria – Austrian World Cup ski racer Hans Grugger was airlifted from the race course at Kitzbuehel after suffering brain and chest injuries in a horrific crash in downhill training.nGrugger flew off the famed Mousetrap jump on The Streif track high and wide, crashing careening to a halt unconscious. He was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Innsbruck, Austria, where Dr. Michael Blauth performed emergency surgery to remove blood from the brain, the Austrian Ski Federation said in a statement.
Grugger, 29, has four career World Cup victories to his credit, two in downhill and two in super G.
Thursday’s accident occurred at the same spot as American Scott Macartney’s crash in 2008 that also resulted in severe head injuries.
