Pennsylvania Ski Resorts Staging Cardboard Derbies

Wellsville, PA – A Cardboard Derby is a crazy competition where teams of up to five participants create cardboard vehicles and ride them down a ski resort’s ski or snow tubing runs. The vehicles are constructed of cardboard, glue, paint and tape. Roundtop Mountain Resort, located in Wellsville between Harrisburg and York, will host their Cardboard Derby on Jan. 30 and Whitetail Mountain Resort located near Mercersburg, Penn., will host theirs on Feb. 27.nThe rules are simple: create your craft using the approved list of materials, put on your helmet and enjoy the ride! Some of the creations are designed for speed, others for creativity but they are all very entertaining to watch as they slide down the runs. Many slide like bobsleds while others totally fall apart along the way – that’s part of the fun.

Cardboard Derbies are very spectator-friendly events. The vehicles are usually very colorful and team members often have themed outfits. There is no charge for spectators and the crowd can usually mingle with the teams before the event begins. Viewing of the actual race is also very convenient, often just steps from the resort’s lodge.
