Donated Tent Could Allow N.Y. Ski Area to Reopen Following Devastating Fire

Cherry Creek, NY – The New York National Guard is heading from Buffalo to Cockaigne ski area in western New York with a massive tent to replace the resort’s base lodge lost this week in a devastating fire.nThe donation could allow Cockaigne to resume its ski season as early as next week. The resort has been closed to skiing and snowboarding since Monday night’s fire, which leveled the base lodge that once served as the Austrian pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair before being disassembled, moved and reassembled at Cockaigne.

Fire authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the fire, but warn that the extent of the devastation may mean that the source is never determined.
