Skier Missing Near Snoqualmie

Snoqualmie Pass, WA – A Seattle woman is missing after not returning from a backcountry ski day near Snoqualmie Pass in Washington.nThe unidentified skier was skiing alone in a steep and rugged area of Red Mountain at the pass when she failed to return. Another skier on Wednesday found her backpack and a glove, which is when the King County Sheriff’s Office first learned that the woman was missing. Friends gathered at Alpental ski area to assist in the search effort.

The woman failed to show up for work in Seattle on Wednesday as scheduled. Her car was located in one of the ski area parking lots.

Helicopters participated in the search until nightfall Wednesday night, and spotted what appeared to be ski gear near a fresh avalanche path on Red Mountain. The search is to resume at daybreak today, although warming temperatures have increased the avalanche risk in the area.
