Calgary (AB), Canada – Canada~Snowboard will play host to some of the best freestyle snowboarders in the world, from Feb. 24-26 as the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup tour stops in Calgary, Alberta at WinSport Canada’s Canada Olympic Park.nThe spectator experience, highlighted by the sport competitions, will be filled with activities for the whole family at Canada Olympic Park on Saturday, Feb. 26. Events include a vendor’s village, a photo contest, a snowboard art showcase and auction, DJs and bands, RBC Riders for kids, an Oakley air bag for riders to try out and more.
The sport competitions will feature the Olympic discipline of halfpipe, presented by Ripzone, as well as the new World Cup discipline of slopestyle, presented by Garnier. Slopestyle made its debut at FIS World Championships last month and Calgary hosted the first ever slopestyle contest of FIS World Cup history in 2010.
“I am looking forward to the World Cup at Canada Olympic Park. It’s always an excellent opportunity for us to compete in front of our home crowds, and the finals on Saturday will be awesome for everyone to come out and watch,” said Brad Martin, the Canadian champion in men’s halfpipe. “We always feel energized when we stomp a run in front of our Canadian fans.”
The competitions, which take place over the week, will finish with the big “Saturday Showdown” where the top riders will compete in the finals for both the slopestyle and halfpipe for the C$100,000 prize purse. Calgarians are invited to come out and cheer on their Canadian team as they take on the world. The event will be held at WinSport Canada’s Canada Olympic Park. The halfpipe event will be held in the 22-foot, Olympic-size superpipe.
“We are so excited to work with Canada~Snowboard and host this international event in our playground. The terrain park, which features the superpipe, is one of our top features at COP and is used every day by Calgarians of all ages,” said Trisha Drake, Supervisor of Sport at WinSport Canada.
