Piiroinen Claims Victory at 6Star Nike Air & Style Munich

Munich, Germany – The 6Star Nike 6.0 Air & Style went off Saturday night in Munich, Germany where Finland’s Peetu Piiroinen threw down a Cab 1260 on the straight jump and a frontblunt 270 out on the rail section in the super finals to take home the win. With his victory, Piiroinen took home an abundance of prizes including a large share of the €75,000 prize purse, the coveted “Air & Style Ring of Glory” and 1000 Swatch TTR World Ranking points to strengthen his tour lead.nIt was an exciting night in Munich with over 16,500 spectators in attendance at the Olympic Stadium, where 16 of the worlds top snowboarders dropped into the massive straight jump, followed by a staircase that featured four different rail options.

The Air & Style events are famous for the unique head-to-head tournament style format where the rider field is cut in half each round until there are only four remaining riders who battle it out for the win. It came down to Piiroinen, Seppe Smits of Belgium, Iceland’s Halldor Helgason and Nils Arvidsson of Sweden in the super final, who all threw down some impressive tricks. In the end, Piiroinen prevailed with his Cab 1260 and was very happy about his win.

“This Air & Style was so good to me. I did all three Air & Styles this year and got fifth in Beijing and second in Innsbruck, now first here, so I got better step by step,” Piiroinen said. “It feels amazing. And, when I think about the TTR ranking I for sure want to finish in the top three.”

Second place finisher Smits was very consistent all night stomping just about every single trick he attempted. His best scoring trick was his own variation of the Cab 1260 combined with a frontside noseslide to pretzel out in the final round. His second place result in Munich moved him into TTR World No. 2. And, coming in third place was Halldor, who was pushing his limits to take the last spot on the podium.

With the Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich wrapped up, all eyes will shift to Oslo, Norway where The Oakley Arctic Challenge will go off this week, the last 6Star stop before the Swatch TTR tour finale in America at the 6Star Burton U.S. Open, where both the men’s and women’s TTR World Tour Champion titles will be awarded. The end of February will also see the men compete at the 5Star Burn River Jump in Italy, as well as the 4Star Sony Ericsson Snowboard Fest.
