West Palm Beach, FL – Floridians witnessed history Saturday as snow finally fell in the Sunshine State at downtown West Palm Beach’s Waterfront Commons for the snowboard competition Red Bull Butter Cup.nThe scenery was full of palm trees, yachts, and a snow covered ramp with local boarders busting out their best tricks. In its third year, this is the first time the Red Bull Butter Cup series has ever been held in the state of Florida. While the powder may not have actually fallen from the sky, 30 tons of shredded ice were brought in to lay down a ski mountain snap-shot in the heart of this sunny paradise.

“It was a lot of fun,” says Pro division winner, Cody Ehlert. “I never thought I’d be in a snowboard competition in West Palm Beach, let alone win it!”
Following behind Ehlert was John Sinchok in second place and Damon Thompson in third. Winners were also chosen in the Amateur division and awards were given to Best Trick and Best Female rider. Contestants competed in a jam format and were judged on overall style, technique and creativity. Only trick sequences that included “buttering” counted.
